WV Supreme Court: No Pipeline Surveys for Private Gain

West Virginia property owners won an important case at the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals on Tuesday when that Court sided with Appalachian Mountain Advocates attorneys, ruling that the Mountain Valley Pipeline cannot survey for its proposed natural gas pipeline without landowner permission.

Divestment, Justice, and Vision: In Praise of a New Generation of Climate Leaders

Veterans leaders from across the diverse climate justice movement pledge solidarity not only with students’ fight for fossil fuel divestment in higher education, but with a vision for a more sustainable future boldly articulated by a new generation of young people.

Four years ago, a handful of college students travelled to West Virginia. In the heart of the Appalachian mountains, they saw two things: the destruction wrought by the fossil fuel industry, and the ongoing resistance of communities that have lived alongside it for generations.

McAuliffe backs 550-mile natural gas pipeline, disappointing environmentalists

Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) on Tuesday unveiled plans for a 550-mile natural gas pipeline through three states, a proposal that won him kudos from the energy industry but criticism from environmental activists, who had considered him an ally.

Young people's voice needed in building an infrastructure of opportunity

Young voting activists gather on a Mississippi college campus in 2008. Four years later, Mississippi had the second-highest turnout rate among young voters after the District of Columbia.

This week the Durham, North Carolina-based nonprofit MDC released its latest State of the South report highlighting how the American dream of intergenerational upward mobility is more elusive for young people born at the bottom of the income ladder in the South than anywhere else in the country.
