The Senate made it official on Wednesday, granting President Barack Obama the power to streamline passage of major trade pacts with Pacific Rim nations and the European Union by a vote of 60 to 38.

Fast Track Down

The Fast Track trade authority package was rejected Friday because two years of effort by a vast corporate coalition, the White House and GOP leaders -- and weeks of deals swapped for yes votes -- could not assuage a majority in the House of Representatives facing constituents' concerns that more of the same trade policy would kill more jobs, push down wages and open a Pandora's box of other damaging consequences.

Can 1 Million People Stop a Bad Trade Deal for Europe?

'We need a new approach to trade and investment policy in the EU that puts people and genuine ecological sustainability at the very heart of discussions,' writes Mitchell. But to get that, 'We need to stop the TTIP.'

In July, a group of people set off to do a hard thing, but an important thing. They wanted to collect 1 million signatures. Once attained, those 1 million signatures would force the European Commission to discuss an immediate halt to the ongoing trade talks between the EU and U.S. These talks are known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. For short, they are called the TTIP.
